I have been weaving since 1978 and although a few long breaks due to work load while living in London. I have been prolifically sourcing inspiration from my lovely surroundings in South West Wales and further afield.
This beautiful hand woven tapestry is depicting the photograph I took of St Govan’s Head, a picturesque part of Pembrokeshire and famous for the little chapel set in the cliff face.. The first 5 images are showing the finished tapestry and the back and fastening baton, the next 3 images show the progress of this wonderful tapestry and the last 2 photos show the tapestry again and the original photograph taken of the scene.
Each individual piece I make takes several months to complete and the emotion of seeing this lovely spot comes out fully in my weaving.
I have 2 looms which are made by Le Clerk, a Canadian company who make looms in the style of the famous Gobelin factory in France.
The top of the tapestry is wrapped around a wooden baton , with screws for easy fixing to a wall. Traditionally the backs of tapestries have the ends cut and left and I have added a strip of binding around the edges.
Warp – cotton
Weft – mixed fibres, wool and acrylic
