This tapestry is my interpretation of “Gateholm Island from St Anne’s Head. Marloes, Pembrokeshire”
The Welsh coast is such a fantastic place for any artist, but this tapestry shows the full beauty of West Wales. When I visit a new area I take so many photograph of scenes.
I have been weaving since 1978 and although a few long breaks due to work load while living in London. I have been prolifically sourcing inspiration from my lovely surroundings in South West Wales and further afield.
It takes several months to complete a tapestry as progress is very slow but so enjoyable.
The first two images show the completed tapestry
The next six images show details and the weaving progress
The last two images show the completed tapestry and the original photograph of the scene
I have 2 looms which are made by Le Clerk, a Canadian company who make looms in the style of the famous Gobelin factory in France.
The top of the tapestry is wrapped around a wooden baton , with screws for easy fixing to a wall. Traditionally the backs of tapestries have the ends cut and left and I have added a strip of binding around the edges.
