Description

This fantastic hand woven tapestry made by Kate is an example of the old lighthouses in Wales.  This one in The Mumbles, near Swansea is a good example.  It has, like many of this type has been replaced with amore modern building for the RNLI.  It was for a while a nightclub!

When she wove this Kate was still in City mode, as with her tapestries of the 1980’s.  At the time she was only looking for buildings to weave and came across this fairly common building in Wales,.

These choppy seas and dark sky indicated stormy weather coming, was the first time I had woven a tapestry with choppy seas.  I think I was influenced by the Japanese artist Hokusai’s painting “The Wave”.
